31. Yippee.

I vaguely remember on the eve of my 29th, I was pounding the streets looking for something monumentally stupid to do, just so I could do one last thing to "chalk up to my youth". I was in bed by 10:00 pm.

I woke up the next morning, on my birthday, & ran to the mirror to see if I'd notice the difference my new maturity brought. Kind of like you do when you're 13. Well, I can say with great confidence that after 365 days of checking the mirror first thing in the morning, that being 30 really only means that you are, well, a year older than 29.

As I searched for a name to describe my current feeling (as no one really understands you when you say, "meh, I've been feeling like playdough lately") I ran across this article:

"Welcome to Your Quarterlife Crisis"

"You can't make any decisions because you don't know what you want. And you don't know what you want because you don't know who you are. And you don't know who you are because you're allowed to be anyone you want. How messed up is that?"

This!! Is!! Me!!
Except I'm Thirty. One.

Upon reading, I felt a bit embarrased. I cannot explain to anyone what I do for a living, because I have barely kept a job long enough to know. I have three friends, none of whom I've hung out with in the last month. I don't have one friend I've known for more than 5 or 6 years living in the same city. I have a closet full of things I don't wear, in no particular order, that were purchased with no regard as to how flattering they would be on my body. And my BODY!!! Uh, let's not go there....

How have I allowed a decade to go by without carving out an identity?

For the next 365 days, I. Will. Find. ME. And I invite you to follow me on my journey.

Welcome to My Thid Life Crisis.
